Coupling h-adaptivity and Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian formulation. **Keywords** : Computational Mechanics, Finite Elements Method (FEM), Large Deformation, Automatic Remeshing, Adaptive Mesh Refinement, Data Transfer, Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian Formulation (ALE), Metal Forming, Forging, Friction Stir Welding (FSW), Composite Materials. ** Short Description** : The goal of my PhD is to improve the modelling of damage and fracture in complex materials under large deformation using the in-house nonlinear Finite Element software Metafor. The strategy adopted consists in developing an automatic h-adaptive mesh refinement algorithm called “fission-fusion”, where elements can be split or merged when needed. This algorithm will then be combined with the already operational erosion algorithm and Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian formulation, and with a multiscale finite element squared approach currently under development. ===== Automatic Remeshing Procedure and Applications ===== The first objective in the completion of my PhD was to establish a fully automatic remeshing procedure which could be used to simulate a wide variety of mechanical processes where mesh distortion are significant. ** Forging ** {{url>https://www.youtube.com/embed/XI6hwatYT0M?rel=0 noborder allowfullscreen}}
